How to prepare for TOEIC Link

TOEIC Link rewards steady, all-round practice more than last-minute cramming, because it is adaptive and covers four skills at once. Here is a simple plan that works.

  1. Learn the format first. Know that Listening and Reading adapt to your level in two stages, and that each skill is scored 0 to 25 on a CEFR scale. No surprises on test day.
  2. Take one full adaptive mock end to end. Do a free TOEIC Link practice test so the adaptive pacing and the on-screen tools feel normal before it counts.
  3. Fix your weakest skill first. Because the overall score is the average of the skills you take, lifting your lowest skill moves your result the most.
  4. Practise Speaking and Writing actively. Learners who only drilled Listening and Reading lose the most here, so record spoken answers and write full responses, then review them honestly.
  5. Rebuild stamina a few days before. All four skills fit inside 90 minutes, so do one timed run to hold your focus across the whole session.

What is TOEIC Link?
TOEIC Link is ETS's newest English-proficiency assessment: a fully online, modular test of up to four skills, Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing, focused on everyday and general workplace English. Listening and Reading are computer-adaptive, and all four skills together take under 90 minutes.
How is TOEIC Link scored?
Each of the four skills is scored 0 to 25 (in steps of 1), and the overall score is the average of the skills you take, also 0 to 25. Scores map to CEFR levels A1 to C1, and results are typically delivered within 48 hours.
How is TOEIC Link different from Listening & Reading?
Link is newer, fully online, modular and adaptive, covers all four skills in under 90 minutes, and scores each skill 0 to 25 on a CEFR-mapped scale. The classic TOEIC Listening & Reading test is a fixed 200-question test scored 10 to 990. They share the same underlying Listening and Reading task types.
How many questions are on TOEIC Link?
Listening has 30 items (Photographs, Question-Response, Conversations, Talks) and Reading has 30 items (Incomplete Sentences, Text Completion, Reading Comprehension), both delivered by a two-stage adaptive design. Speaking has 11 tasks and Writing has 6 tasks.
How does TOEIC Link map to the CEFR?
On each skill's 0–25 scale: 0–7 = A1, 8–12 = A2, 13–17 = B1, 18–21 = B2, 22–25 = C1. The same bands apply to all four skills.
Is TOEIC Link modular?
Yes. The four skills can be assessed together or separately, so you can take any combination of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing that you need.
When was TOEIC Link launched?
ETS launched the TOEIC Link assessments in 2025.
Is TOEIC Link taken online?
Yes. TOEIC Link is a fully online assessment delivered through a secure exam browser, and can be taken at a test centre or, with remote proctoring, at home.
Is TOEIC Link replacing Listening & Reading?
No. TOEIC Link is an additional, modern option in the TOEIC program that sits alongside the established Listening & Reading and Speaking & Writing tests.
Can I practise TOEIC Link here for free?
Yes. Our free practice matches the real Link task types for all four skills, with 0–25 scoring and CEFR feedback from the AI coach. We are not affiliated with ETS.
How can I prepare for TOEIC Link?
Learn the adaptive, four-skill format, take a full practice test to get used to the pacing, then focus on your weakest skill, because the overall score averages the skills you take. Practising Speaking and Writing actively usually gives the fastest gains.
Who accepts TOEIC Link?
TOEIC Link is new (ETS launched it in 2025) and recognition is still growing, mostly among employers and institutions already in the TOEIC program. Always confirm with the specific employer or school that they accept it before you book.
Can I take TOEIC Link as an individual?
TOEIC Link is delivered mainly through organisations. As an individual you usually take it via an ETS Preferred Network (EPN) member organisation, such as your university or employer, rather than booking it directly. By contrast, the classic TOEIC Listening & Reading test is available to individuals directly. On this site we provide free practice matched to the real format, not the official test itself.
Is TOEIC Link harder than TOEIC Listening & Reading?
Not harder, just different. Because Listening and Reading are adaptive, the questions adjust to your level, so it feels targeted rather than uniformly easy or hard. It also adds Speaking and Writing, so it tests a wider range than Listening & Reading alone.
Should I take TOEIC Link or Listening & Reading?

What does a TOEIC Link score report show?
You get a 0 to 25 score for each skill you took, the matching CEFR level from A1 to C1, and an overall score that is the average of those skills. Because every skill sits on the same scale, it is easy to see at a glance which skill to work on next.
How does a TOEIC Link score compare to a Listening & Reading score?
They use different scales, so there is no exact conversion: Link reports 0 to 25 per skill mapped to the CEFR, while Listening & Reading reports a combined 10 to 990.
